Meet Yasmin

Your Member for Swansea

Elected as the Member for Swansea in 2015, Yasmin grew up in Summerland Point and now lives in Swansea with her family. Yasmin joined the Labor party when she was 19 years of age drawn to the party’s pursuit of fairness, justice and equality.

Before entering politics, Yasmin had spent most of her working life in local council and federal department libraries. She is actively involved with local community groups and enjoys exploring the many beautiful qualities of the Swansea Electorate.

Yasmin has been a lifelong campaigner for social justice, better public services and workers’ rights. Yasmin is a local who listens and cares about the concerns of the community. She is passionate and focused on ensuring our schools and hospitals get a fair deal and our economy is strong so local people have the best opportunity to get a job.

In 2020 Yasmin introduced into the NSW Parliament the NSW Jobs First Bill. Yasmin strongly believes we should be increasing employment in our State by boosting manufacturing and social and professional services, incentivising locally manufactured materials and locally delivered services.

Yasmin is currently the Minister for Police and Counter-Terrorism and the Minister for the Hunter.
